COOK, Minn. – Credit unions across the region golfed recently to make a difference in the lives of children. The 46th Annual Lakes & Pines Chapter Golf Tournament raised $4,294.39 for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. Gillette Children’s has been providing specialty care for children with complex medical conditions for 125 years. “We have some good friends who flipped their truck and got struck underwater last summer,” said Kurt Cummins, owner of Kaliber Technologies, LLC, who donated to the tournament this year. “The 5-year-old was at Children’s for nearly two months but has made a full recovery. What they do is amazing, not only with the medical care, but with the care they give for the whole family, since they are all going through the ordeal. It’s definitely worth contributing toward.” Gillette Children’s provides care to patients with complex conditions, rare disorders, and traumatic injuries focusing on “some of the toughest challenges” in pediatric medicine, according to its website. The medical professionals care for brain, bone and movement conditions that require specialized expertise. “We are thankful to all of those who participated in the golf tournament to raise funds for this meaningful cause,” said Jennifer Stedt, CEO of North Star Credit Union (NSCU), who serves as president of the Lakes & Pines Chapter of Credit Unions. “It was a wonderful event that brought together staff and community to raise funds for this impactful organization.” Representatives from NSCU, NorthRidge Community Credit Union, Embarrass Vermilion Federal Credit Union, Virginia Co-op Credit Union, Northern Communities Credit Union, Brady Martz & Associates, PWCC Advisors, Minnesota Credit Union Network, and Vectre Consulting came together to participate in this fundraising event at Wolfridge Golf Course. A variety of local businesses donated in form of prizes and sponsorships. “We have an amazing region that is supportive of efforts that make an impact in the lives of others,” said Stedt, whose credit union organized the event. “We are proud of our community and the credit union spirit of giving.” Gillette Children’s operate a hospital and four clinics in the Twin Cities and have clinics throughout greater Minnesota. In 2022, they saw patients from 87 Minnesota counties, 41 U.S. states and territories, and six international countries, according to its website.
