Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union – ST. PAUL, MINN. (September 1, 2021) – Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union partnered for the second year in a row with Minnesota Computers for Schools to host Tech Drive Tuesday. Various Affinity Plus branches across the state of Minnesota held Tech Drive Tuesday starting in July and ending in August. These events were a way to create more digital equity as it allowed for computer equipment to be re-housed and repurposed for students of all ages across the state. The donations stayed in the community where they were donated to support local students in need. For every usable computer that was donated, meaning five years old or newer, the Affinity Plus Foundation donated $150 to Minnesota Computers for Schools to purchase another refurbished computer for a local student or school. The 2021 Tech Drive Tuesday collected more than 200 usable computer donations at 17 Affinity Plus branch locations across the state, and the Affinity Plus Foundation matched that number, resulting in a total of 470 computers. These computers will be provided at no cost to students, schools and community organizations to ensure more students have access to reliable computers this school year. Hundreds of monitors, keyboards, and other miscellaneous computer parts were also donated and will be used to build other computers at Minnesota Computers for Schools. “Tech Drive Tuesday is an important campaign to us here at Affinity Plus,” said Adam Layne, Senior Community Engagement Specialist. “The last year and half has revealed the drastic divide in digital equity that has been occurring in our communities for years. Through Tech Drive Tuesday, we are able to help our local students by providing them with the necessary technology to be successful in their academics. A sincere thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this possible.” Thanks to the generosity of our communities during Tech Drive Tuesday, nearly 500 students will have access to technology for this upcoming school year.
