WATERLOO, Iowa – Veridian Credit Union is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a schedule of giveaways, acts of kindness and community donations through the end of the year. Veridian was founded in 1934 in Waterloo, Iowa in the depths of the Great Depression. While banks were closing or forced to restrict lending, seven John Deere employees pooled their own money, five dollars each, to help give their coworkers access to the financial tools they needed. “The story of our founding is important because it’s central to who Veridian is and the values that guide us today,” said Veridian President and CEO Renee Christoffer. “We’re still cooperatively owned by our members and for our members, not for profit.” Now through September 30, Veridian is offering a chance to win $90. On October 17, Veridian employees will celebrate International Credit Union Day with acts of kindness impacting 90 local organizations. On December 3, the annual Veridian Gives Back for Giving Tuesday campaign will donate $90,000 to local organizations, more than doubling its annual Giving Tuesday donations. Details on each anniversary activity, including special offers and more will be available at veridiancu.org/90. Veridian Credit Union, founded in 1934 in Waterloo, Iowa, is a financial cooperative owned by the people who use its products and services - its members.
