APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (June 8, 2020) — Wings Financial Credit Union announced its commitment to help Minneapolis recover through a donation of $50,000 to Urban Ventures based in south Minneapolis. The donation kicks off a long-term relationship to give back as Minneapolis heals and moves forward. “The events in Minneapolis over the past two weeks have shaken our cities, our country and our institutions,” said Frank Weidner, Wings Financial president & CEO, “I mourn for the loss of life and the pain and suffering being felt by George Floyd’s family and the communities in which we live and work. We stand against divisiveness and brutality. We are taking action to help Minneapolis recover and rebuild by partnering with Urban Ventures based in south Minneapolis.” To support Urban Ventures, the Wings Financial Foundation is donating $50,000 to their Crisis Fund which will assist with immediate food needs for those living in south Minneapolis and aid small businesses damaged by the recent riots. Wings wants to not only be part of fulfilling immediate needs but, working closely with Urban Ventures, intends to be involved in the community over the long-term helping them carry out their mission in Minneapolis. “We are incredibly grateful to Wings Financial Credit Union for their generous contribution to the Urban Ventures Crisis Fund which will help support our local families and small businesses as we begin to heal and rebuild”, said Dave Hawn, Urban Ventures president & CEO, “Wings has offered not only financial support but a long-term commitment to volunteer in support of our mission of educating children, strengthening their families, and building a healthy community.” In the coming months, Wings is looking at how its employees can help with the Urban Ventures mission whether through providing financial education courses or volunteer opportunities.
