Altra Federal Credit Union to award winners for their Best Life Community Awards (BLCA). Therapet, located in Tyler, TX is the winner of the $10,000 Community Choice Award, which is determined by popular vote through online voting. Therapet’s mission is to provide hope, health, and healing everyday as volunteers take their own specially trained and certified pets to schools, hospitals, prisons, community organizations, libraries, and community events. First Teen Clothes Closet located in La Crosse, WI is the recipient of the $7,500 Impact Award, which is chosen by past recipients of the BLCA. Their mission is to is to provide free, gently used and some new, in-style clothing and personal care items for late elementary, middle, high and post high school teens in need. Employee Choice winners each receive $5,000 and include the following nonprofits: Characters of Character in Clarksville, TN; Bear Creek Services in Rochester, MN; Birdwell PTA in Tyler, TX; and Safe Families for Children Wisconsin in La Crosse, WI. Community Assistance Awards are determined by a panel of judges consisting of members from Altra’s Community Engagement, Advocacy and DEI committees. The following nonprofits were selected to each receive $5,000: Ready Set School and Community Engagement Response Team in Minnesota; Holmen Food Pantry, GearUp, and Adult & Teen Challenge in Wisconsin. The following nonprofits were selected to each receive $2,500: Winona Art Center in Minnesota; La Crosse County Historical Society, Centering Onalaska, Friends of the Blufflands, Holmen Activities & Booster Club, and St. Joseph Ridge Lions Club. Five Altra employees will be rewarded based upon volunteerism with a $1,500 donation on their behalf to a nonprofit organization of their choice. Checks are being presented to the nonprofits this week.
