Five credit unions in the Brainerd Lakes Area, also known as the Financial Fraud Fighters, are working together to raise awareness of fraud and what you can do to protect yourself. November 12-18 is International Fraud Awareness Week, known commonly as Fraud Week. Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, Brainerd BN Credit Union, Crow Wing Power Credit Union, Members Cooperative Credit Union, and Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union are proactively united in the fight against fraud and are offering the following opportunities to all in our community: Attend a free webinar: Increase your knowledge of the recent fraud scams our area is experiencing. What you can do to protect yourself and what to do if you or a loved one is a victim. A free webinar is being hosted Friday, November 17 from Noon-1pm via Zoom. Let us know you are interested and little about your group and we will follow up: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HostFraudEducation Know and Share these 10 Fraud Tips: -Scammers pretend to be from an organization you know. -Scammers say there is a problem or a prize. -Scammers tell you to pay in a specific way, such as wiring money, sending cash, cryptocurrency, money orders, or gift cards. -Block unwanted calls and text messages. -Never share passwords or log in credentials. -Resist the pressure to act immediately. Stop and talk to someone that you trust. -Don’t click on email links if you don’t know the sender or the message seems strange. -Shred sensitive documents. -Report financial fraud to local law enforcement and your financial institution, we are here to help! - Close any affected accounts and open new accounts.
